Youth Art Workshop Wants More Naturalized Indoor Air
Well, you've come to the right place!
The youth art workshop, a part of the employment services of the city of Jyväskylä, has during its history been drifting from one place to another in search of better indoor air. Now, having been operating in the same place for over ten years, the workshop offering the young different work related activities ranging from work trials to employment guidance, wants to finally overcome the problems caused by the indoor air.
The place has been once thoroughly renovated, but the ventilation system set up with great attention to detail and the other reparations have not been able to create a sufficiently healthy working environment for the 25 employees of the art workshop. The staff’s symptoms persisted despite of the fact that the city’s estate service as well as the owner of the real estate both made their best to take care of the situation.
On account of the decision made together with the head of the department and the employees, six indoor-air-naturalizing Naava Originals were set up in the art workshop. The walls were installed in the offices where people had been most symptomatic of the indoor air.
In pursuit of the best naturalized indoor air and a healthy work community
The atmosphere at the art workshop is energetic and active. The efficient work community has, however, been overshadowed by mysterious indoor air related health symptoms. According to the questionnaires, headache, fatigue and unusual exhaustion during the workday have troubled many of the work community.
Two of the workers have been forced to change the office due to bad indoor air. The distress of the workers and their move from one work community to another bothers the head of the operational unit Jorma Nieminen, and it brings with it additional costs. As a result, Nieminen does everything in his power to create as good a working environment as possible for his employees.
”People do not want to be absent from work. They want to be able to work energetically and to do things after work too. This space had to be transformed, so that people could work in a healthy environment here”.
As has been scientifically proven, Naava improves the air quality and the people feel better – this is what we have experienced here as well.
Having acquainted himself with the functioning of Naava and its positive effects in other places, the head of the unit considered it to be a great opportunity and the most suitable solution to get rid of the health symptoms. Naavas, naturally purifying the indoor air, were set up in six offices. The smallest offices are single person, approximately 12m2 offices, and the biggest offices accommodate three to four people.
Vanished symptoms and comfortable spaces
Naavas set up in October 2013 started to show their power within a month or so, when the microbe population of the plants’ roots had had time to activate in the indoor air of the art workshop. Nieminen says he was one of the people who suffered from severe headache and fatigue and is now grateful for Naavas effects on his well-being. Nieminen works most of the day in his own office with Naava, so he gets to substantially breathe in the naturally clean indoor air.
”Before Christmas, my headaches disappeared and my well-being improved noticeably. No other changes were made aside from Naava”. Also the work trainers Sampo Salo ja Arttu Nieminen have noticed how Naavas have created a positive atmosphere for the whole work community. ”Naava cheers up the workplace. The plants are cool and looking at them calms you down”, the young men explain. Arttu states that his co-workers have also talked about the improved and naturalized indoor air and eased off symptoms.
Before Christmas my headache disappeared and my managing improved notably. No other changes were made, aside from Naava.
The head of the unit has been so satisfied with smart green walls that he would not mind if another lot of Naavas were purchased to the art workshop. “The employees come to tell me that the indoor air in the offices with Naava feels clearly better. Some of them have afterwards fretted over the fact that an indoor air purifying Naava was not installed into their offices. In addition, we still have quite a few rooms left without a Naava, where we nevertheless have a clear need for better indoor air”.
Nieminen also acknowledges the in-depth informing and communication of Naturvention and the introduction session held on the spot before the arrival of Naavas. “One cannot exaggerate the importance of information and taking into account the users, especially with these indoor air issues”, Jorma Nieminen emphasizes.
Although the big building and its challenges for indoor air have been present in the work community’s routines all too much, Naavas have brought a great deal of positivity to the work community. ”As has been scientifically proved, with Naava the indoor air quality improves and the people feel better – this is what we have experienced here as well. When the ventilation functions and Naavas are active, things begin to be back on track”, the head of the unit concludes.
